Riding the Silver Strand Bikeway in Coronado

Ken Kugel has metioned to me about the Silver Strand Bikeway while we talked about mountain bikes at the Ramona Grasslands.  He gave me a tip or two about riding Prius Iscariot, my hybrid that I call a traitor to Toyota after I used its hybrid's name in vain. I love riding dirt trails and as Ken advised, I have been pumping my tires less. Ken explained that mountain bike tires which are wider than those of road bikes have more traction if they have less air.
Using Philip Erdelsky's article about red routes in San Diego, I had to look for the names of the streets  instead of figuring out locating Thomas 1330 A5 N32 35 260 W 117 05 560 on the map. Philip Erdelsky is my Maestro Magellan after he lectured about Greenwich time and latitude or longitudes  while we explored some trails near Crestridge Ecological Reserve Trails in the East County  about three years ago. The Silver Strand Bikeway would be the longest bike route I have ridden on  in San Diego. This a 24-mile long that stretches from the mouth of the Otay River all the way into Coronado Ferry Landing which is right across downtown San Diego over the San Diego Bay.  Maestro Magellan listed more than 20 red  routes in San Diego alone. The Imperial Beach end of the Silver Strand Bikeway is probably the southernmost being very close to the Tijuana River Estuary.
The Fiddler's Cove Marina and RV Park is the very first easy parking area along CA-75 that I saw after aimlessly driving  downtown Coronado looking for parking areas.  Even on an overcast  drissly Sunday, Coronado is full  of promenaders. Far from the maddening crowd, the Fiddler's Cove Marina which is also a  military campground other than being  the waterside facility for the US Navy Yatch Club is surprisingly not restricted to  public  day-use parking. The Silver Strand Nature Bridge to Discovery Park ends into the marina's outer parking grounds.
South of the marina is the Silver Strand State Beach. The Silver Strand shores on the San Diego Bay side overlooks the Coronado Bay Bridge to the  north and cities closer to the Mexican border to the  south. The Silver Strand is more of a land strip that encircles  the San Diego Bay from the Pacific Ocean. CA State Route 75 also known as Silver Strand Boulevard  traverses the whole land strip which is also referred to as the tombolo. A tombolo is an Italian term that comes from the Latin word tumulus which means mound.
